Our Training Instructors

Penny Penny: Penny began training her family’s dogs as a young child, and her love of dogs and working with them has been her primary passion in life. Penny began professionally training and competing with dogs in 1988. She and her husband, Dale McElrath, have bred and shown some of the top Flat-Coated Retrievers in the country in the conformation ring.

In addition, Penny has put the most advanced level titles on several breeds in Agility, Obedience, Rally and Flyball. Currently, Penny’s All-American Dog, Cameo, is one of the top-ranked mixed-breed dogs in AKC Agility and is a qualifier for the 2013 AKC National Agility Championship. Penny and Dale own a small farm in southern Alamance County that includes a flock of sheep, and they work their Border Collies on sheep and have earned a number of herding titles on them.

Penny works for the Raleigh office of the American Kennel Club and is a writer for many national dog publications. She is the recipient of a writing award from the Dog Writers Association of America (DWAA) and is a nominee for two DWAA awards in the 2012 competition.
PamPam: Pam shares life with husband Chris, their three dogs, Remy (toy poodle), AlaFair (toy poodle), and Pepperini (mini long-haired dachshund) and their cat, Razzle Dazzle. Pam and Chris sponsor four children internationally: two in the Dominican Republic (Melanie and Janeyron) and two in Ecuador (Grace and Eydan).

Pam is a Love on a Leash Registered Therapy Handler and Evaluator , CGC Evaluator, Delta Society Pet Partners Registered Therapy Handler and is active in therapy work with all three of her dogs. Additionally, Pam serves as one of the team captains for the Town and Country Therapy Dog team.

Previous to becoming completely immersed in therapy work, Pam and Remy were active in agility and rally.





Patty
Patty:
Patty has trained and competed with Siberian Huskies for more than 25 years. Her dogs have earned AKC conformation, obedience, rally, agility, and coursing ability titles. She also participates in pet therapy visits at retirement homes.

She moved to Raleigh in 2007 to work for the American Kennel Club, where she is Legislative Analyst in the Government Relations department. She is a former instructor with the Nashville (TN) Dog Training Club.

Patty teaches Canine Good Citizen, family manners, rally, and puppy classes at Town & Country.





Jennifer S.Jennifer: Jennifer's love of dogs began at a very early age. Her parents bred, showed and raced dogs up until the time she was a teenager. From a young age she was surrounded by fluffy Siberian Huskies, fun-loving Pembroke Welsh Corgis and even a Dandie Dinmont Terrier.

After college she decided to follow her passion for work and began training dogs. After completing her Certification in Dog Training at the Animal Behavior College she became a trainer with Town and Country.

Jennifer has two wonderful dogs, "Tucker", a 10 year old Siberian Husky and a Catahoula Leopard Dog Mix she adopted from the Franklin County Animal Shelter who she looks forward to competing in Flyball and potentially Agility in the future.




Erin R. Erin R.: Erin works as a veterinary technician and lives in Raleigh with her nine dogs. She is studying to be a veterinarian at NC State University after graduating from their undergrad program with a degree in Animal Science and Nutrition.

Erin has trained and titled dogs in rally, herding, flyball and agility and teaches rally, tricks, flyball and agility courses at Town & Country.

Erin says she loves all breeds of dogs but has a soft spot for herding and bully breeds, currently owning 3 border collies, 2 shelties, 3 mixed-breeds and a Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

Erin J.:
Erin is a lifelong lover of animals. She currently has a Pug named Sydney, 2 Border Collies named Tony and Ruger and a Flat-Coated Retriever named Shelley.

She competes with her pets in Confirmation, Agility, Rally, Herding, Flyball and Retriever Hunt Test. Erin works for the Raleigh Police Department as an Animal Control Officer.

Through the past few years in her career and by owning her own pets, she knows first hand the importance of training and the rewards of the human/animal bond.





Maggie
Maggie:
Maggie is a young trainer but has many years of experience under her belt. Starting with her first Sheltie at the age of nine she came here to Town and Country's Kids N K-9 camp sparking an interest in the dog sport of Agility.

She has titled in many levels of agility, and has received a canine good citizen titles on both her Shelties.

She still currently runs Agility with her dogs but has expanded to helping other learn the sport of Agility by teaching the Intro to Agility classes here at Town and Country!
